Soulless One

soulless_one.jpg

Note: The Soulless One will have a big rebalance around the time of the Aki City patch so the skill information will be different at that time.

Soulless One is a magic class that boasts strong offensive capabilities, with arguably the highest potential for burst damage out of any class. They also come with different play styles, organized under their three souls, red, blue, and black, which they can switch between at will. This allows Soulless Ones to incorporate a variety of gameplay styles, ranging from the quick, multi-hit skills in red, to the defensive, high burst damage skills in blue, to the insanely powerful attacks used while in black soul. This class thus not only possesses strong offensive capabilities, but also decent defensive capabilities, making it more tanky than any other magic class.

Pros

Cons

▸ Arguably the highest potential burst damage in the game
▸ A combination of solid defensive capabilities that most other mages lack
▸ Three gameplay styles organized under its souls, allowing for versatile gameplay, and adaptability to any given gameplay situation

▸ Limited mobility, which makes its defensive capabilities necessary
▸ Maximizing dps often involves switching between souls rather quickly to maintain buffs and damage passives, which can prove rather hectic to an inexperienced player

(Lv. 100)

Become a Soulless One by following the steps:

1. During character creation, choose Soul Breaker. The Soul Breaker icon is the red orb, which represents the soul stone weapon.

2. At Lv. 50, advance to Soul Reaver. As before, you will continue to use a soul stone, but you will now have access to red and blue soul.

3. At Lv. 100, advance to Soul Lord. You will now have access to all three souls: red, blue, and black.

4. At Lv. 170, advance to Soulless One. This allows you to unlock even more skills, and more powerful passive and buff skills.

2. The Basics

The Soulless One is a class based off the use of three souls, red, blue, and black.

Red Soul
When the player is using red soul, there will be a passive benefit of a 10% increase in static damage, as well as 3000 additional static damage. This soul generally operates on relatively quick, multi-hit skills.

Blue Soul
Blue soul is a defensive soul, which operates on strong burst damage attacks, as well as a basic attack combo. It gives a passive boost of 200 intensity, which is especially helpful for blue soul’s quick bursty attacks. Blue Soul also opens up an expanded basic attack combo, which can be summed up as follows:

1. Plain attack sends the soul stone forward and down.

2. Another plain attack pulls the stone back up

3. A third plain attack sends the stone downward, back to the user.

4. A fourth plain attack pushes the soul stone up and away from the user.

5. If the user presses hard attack, the orb will disappear into a whirl of magic in front of the user, ending the combo. If the user presses plain attack, the soul stone shoots ahead in a few rings and smoke; the combo can continue from this attack.

6. If the user presses hard attack, the user throws a red orb away from themselves, ending the combo. If the user presses plain attack, the soul stone hovers in front of them, radiating a swirl of magic, allowing the user to continue the combo. If the user has heat plus, and presses special plain attack, the user leaps back, and casts forth magic that leaves monsters trapped in place, ending the combo.

7. Press hard attack to end the combo by smashing the soul stone into the ground, generating a small flare of magic.

Black Soul
Black soul gives 120 magical damage while active.. The player is also granted a two second knock-back resistant shield when casting any black soul skill. Most skills will require more than two seconds of casting time. The only two skills that can be casted before the shield ends are Soul Ability IV and Heat Flare. (You can potentially have a six second knock-back shield if you chain SA IV and Heat Flare with another black soul skill)

4. Skill Builds & Tips

Since black soul gives a passive of 120/120 min/max, it is ideal to utilize a build that makes the most of black soul, as it gives such a great boost in damage.

Three-Souls Build

This build utilizes all three souls, but primarily focuses on black soul. This build is good for using black soul, then switching to the other souls while black soul skills are on cool down. This build also grants access to all three infinity skills, while allowing the user to eventually attain +4 to soul abilities I through IV, as well as Energy Soul and Dragon Hazard.

Blue-Black Build

This build capitalizes on the high damage that both blue and black soul attack skills provide. Cooldown Reduction is a priority with this build, and obtaining Blessing of Soul to maximize your use of Blue Soul Attacks is important so that you can use your high damage blue soul attacks instead of your attack combo more often while you wait for black soul skills to cool down. You’ll notice that the special attack combo heat plus is activated for more attacks while in blue soul.

Once you gain enough skill points to invest in more miscellaneous skills, however, a build like this one should become more feasible toward end-game, which gets rid of the blue soul attack combos. More points go into raising the skill levels of soul abilities III and IV than I and II, since the blue soul version of soul abilities I and II are a provoke and self-heal respectively, and thus are not necessary to raise for damage, while soul abilities III and IV are attacks in both.

Red-Black Build

This build capitalizes on the quick, multi-hit attacks that red soul has, as well as the high damage attacks of black soul. This build is good for clearing dungeons with many mobs that have relatively low hp, such as instances that you would farm at a higher level. This build becomes much more viable once red soul attack skills are mastered. Increasing the damage of red soul skills involves utilizing clairvoyance, astragain, and release while in black soul, then switching to red soul to use attack skills.

Red-Blue Build

This build shirks black soul altogether for red and blue soul attacks, which don’t come with black soul’s long casting times. A pseudo version of this build would minimally incorporate black soul to use black soul buffs, significantly improving the damage of red and blue soul skills. A copy of a pseudo red-blue build can be found here. This pseudo red-blue build uses red and blue attacks while taking buffs from black soul and its miscellaneous skill tree to maximize damage. If you really want to go without the black soul buffs, you can go for a build like this one, though for damage reasons it would be better to avoid a build like this. At the very least consider just getting black soul, since it requires no skill points, and gives you a damage buff for your red and blue attacks if you switch into black soul while attacking with them. From 229, you can put your remaining skill points either into Soul Upgrade for 1 min/max magic damage per level when you use skills, or Damage Upgrade III for 1% static damage per level, or even Time Acceleration III for a higher chance of lowering the cooldown of Crimson Hammer, Giant Killing III, and Crimson Drill by 1 second.

Tips & Tricks

▸ Using Black Soul at least for the buffs it provides is super helpful to really unlocking Soulless One’s potential. With maxed Astragain, maxed Release, and maxed Clairvoyance, all buffs that have to do with black soul or its miscellaneous skill tree, you can buff your max magic damage by 92, your minimum magic damage by 36, and your critical rate by 70%. These buffs will remain even when you switch into other souls.
▸ All three souls cost no skill points so even if it is not necessary, you should still have access to all three souls.
▸ Dark Shadow is a must-have for late-game. The five second immunity is extremely helpful due to Soulless One’s limited mobility.
▸ Investing in the miscellaneous skills that upgrade soul abilities I-IV, as well as other attacks you may use often, will also be a big boon for your damage.
▸ In terms of builds, for PvE it is often best to go with a build that uses all three souls or prioritizes blue and black. A build for PvP however would lean more towards using red and blue attacks to combo/catch an enemy off guard, then finish with black soul skills.
▸ Unless your accuracy is below 100, Mental Concentration III is really not necessary. The points would be much better spent on Elemental Upgrade III, which increases elemental intensity by 10% when maxed.
▸ Unless your build really prioritizes red soul attacks, avoid investing in Damage Upgrade III. Static damage is not very helpful for blue or black soul attacks, since they hit hard but few times. There is thus is not much of a need to go out of the way for static damage unless your build heavily relies on red soul, which has mostly multi-hit skills with relatively low damage, and thus benefits more from static damage.
Switching to black soul when casting skills that are part of the red/blue tree will give those casted skills a 120/120 min/max damage boost. This can be very difficult however, as to fully maximize the benefit the player must constantly swap between red/blue soul to black in the duration of the cast time before the skill deals damage.
▸ You can gain an additional skill point simply by saving at the Iris Stone in Elias
▸ A somewhat less convenient, but still relatively easy way to earn another skill point, is to complete the level 1 Dotnuri Completion Quest from Dora in Elias.
▸ Getting level 7 in Storm Watcher will also provide another skill point
▸ Soulless One is a class that requires a large amount of skill points so any additional points will be beneficial to the class.

5. Gearing

Soulless Ones use a magical weapon called a soul stone. In addition to the soul stone, like any other magical class, Soulless Ones use an elemental stone, which provides elemental intensity. On the soul stone, you should aim to enchant both minimum and maximum magical damage. On the elemental stone, you should enchant both minimum and maximum elemental damage.

In terms of weapons, a Level Up! soul stone and elemental stone or (s) stones will suffice until at least 200. The Odin elemental stone Void of Twilight should replace the level Up! +9 elemental stone by level 200. At 205, replace the Void of Twilight with the Dynasty elemental stone, Terra. At 213, you may equip a Mana Lab elemental stone, Vitas, but it is not better than Terra other than in intensity until it is upgraded to +1.

If wearing a Level Up! +9 soul stone, unless the max damage enchant exceeds 65 on an odin stone (Imperium), or 30 on a dynasty soul stone (Arosis), it is better to keep the Level Up! soul stone. If transitioning from (S) weapons, start with an Odin soul stone at 200, and move on to a Dynasty soul stone at 205. At 213, you will be able to equip the Mana Lab soul stone, Rekuja. Rekuja is technically not better than Arosis, the Dynasty soul stone, until it is upgraded to +1.

Armor is not as complicated of a matter. Until Palace armor sets, there is really not much choice. Level Up! Armor or (S) armor obtained through crafting or drops from mobs should suffice until 200. If wearing (S) armor, and Level Up! Armor is not available, then consider switching to the Soulless One’s Twilight armor set from Ymir at 195 if you can get a high magic critical damage enchant on the gloves. From 200 to 209, Sky Coliseum armor is the way to go. Enchants on armor should include magic, stamina, magical critical damage on gloves, and movement speed on shoes. Prioritize getting as high of a magical critical damage enchant as possible, since Soulless One makes critical hits somewhat often thanks to Clairvoyance.

At 209, Soulless Ones can choose to use either the red (Aspect of Dissolution) or black palace armor set (Aspect of Ascension) depending on their build. Builds that prioritize red soul over blue and black will benefit more from the additional static damage and basic stats, specifically magic, offered by black set, while builds that focus more on blue or black soul will benefit more from the additional elemental intensity and maximum damage offered by red set. At 220, those wearing black set should aim for Sun armor from Agni’s Altar, and red set users should aim for Sand armor from Agni’s Altar. The following two subsections will briefly explain the how and why behind the aforementioned recommendations.

If you heavily use red, this is why you should focus on static damage:
Red soul inherently comes with a +10% static damage bonus, as well as 3000 static. With other miscellaneous skills and specials alone, this static damage bonus can become as high as 25%. But why stack static damage further by using black palace armor (aspect of ascension) if you use red soul heavily? Well, it’s because out of the three souls, red soul attacks tend to, more often than not, come with the lowest damage per hit. At the same time, red soul attacks are very quick, tend to hit multiple times, and tend to have more stable damage than blue or black soul attack skills. This means that stacking static damage will be significantly more beneficial for a person who uses red soul attacks heavily than someone who does not, because they will be using attacks that tend to have a lot more hits than a Soulless One who uses blue and black soul attacks, which tend to have fewer hits with higher, but less stable damage per hit. Subsequently, sun armor would be a potential choice for a person who adopts this playstyle, as it gives even more static.

If you do not use red soul much at all, this is why you should focus on intensity:
Blue and Black Soul skills tend to come with high damage modifiers. In fact, blue and black soul include some of Soulless One’s hardest hitting attacks, such as Blue Soul Abilities III and IV, and Energy Soul. While static is still helpful, it is not as helpful for these attacks as intensity is. Intensity bonuses significantly increase the damage output of these skills that hit few times, or even only once, but with high damage. To gain more intensity, wearing red palace armor (aspect of dissolution) is necessary. Static is not bad for builds that avoid red at all, but it is not as important as intensity or min/max magical damage, so it need not be prioritized like in builds that heavily incorporate red soul. Subsequently, a sand set, which gives more intensity, is also more beneficial for players with this playstyle.
